How do I access the Internet? You will be using a specific network for BYOD. (It is faster!) Your teachers will tell you how to access that network. If you have trouble, you may ask for help in the Media Center. On your device you will,
Go to Settings --> Wi-Fi
Select "Add Network" ("Other" on Apple devices)
Type in WAKE-BYOD (all caps)
The network is public so no need to type in a password.
What if I can't get my device to access the school's network? Ask your teacher or bring your device to the Media Center.
When may I use my device? When your teacher asks you to use it during class. Your classroom teacher is the one who determines whether or not you will be needing your device during his/her class period. You may also use your device before or after school and during SMART Lunch.
Do I need to pay for any special applications or programs for my device? WCPSS will be providing Google accounts with Google Apps for Education for all students and WCPSS student email accounts. Most other tools will be web-based and should not cost anything.
If I have stored some of my work on my student drive (H) at school, how do I access it from home? You cannot access work at home. Your student drive (H - identified by your student number) at school is in a secured environment and can only be accessed from within the school's network. However, if you store your work in your student Google Drive, you will be able to access it from any computer anywhere.
Will there be charging stations to recharge batteries? Students should remember to charge their devices at home. They should then have enough battery life to last during the school day. Students shouldn't expect to use their devices each day in every class.
What if my device is damaged or stolen? BYOD is a privilege and not a requirement therefore you are bringing your device to school at your own risk. Panther Creek High School and/or WCPSS is not responsible for damaged, lost, or stolen devices. You may want to insure your device, or if you are purchasing a new device, you may want to purchase the extended warranty.
Why can't I use my 3G/4G network during school? The wireless network provided by WCPSS has security and filters that make Internet access safer and more directed for learning.
What if I don't have a device to bring to school? Students without devices will either be provided a device to use while in class or will be paired with a group. No one will be penalized for not bringing a device!
